Wet Flowers

"Let it rain"

These two pictures were taken by myself with my Cannon T3 Rebel digital camera. I still have the standard or manufactured lens on the camera when I shot this photo. For this photo I believe I could make it better if I had a micro lens. I took this photo looking for subject matter outside to photograph for my class project and came across this amazing flower. I used my rules in photography with rule of thirds in the first one, but I wanted to capture the flower as a whole as well because it was such a bright color. It had just rained and the sun was coming back out from the clouds for the late afternoon setting. My main focus was the water droplets, I thought it was nice to see the reflection of the sky in each and every droplet of water on the flowers petals. I'm very proud of my pictures I've taken of this flower, if only I had a micro lens it would be a much better photograph.

Carolina Girls

"Carolina girl bumper stickers"

These compositions were created in my Digital Illustration class. This project was a paid gig by my Professor at the time. I wanted to do some girly-girl stickers along with a tom-boy and a rough girl style. Every girl is unique and has different attitudes. I was very excited to do this project because I know girls that would love to buy bumper stickers that really expressed their personality. My Professor was very excited and proud of my concepts and compositions. I really worked hard on my slogan for all of these. I knew I wanted some animal print and neon colors since it's the style today. I also wanted to have a girly girl styled one with lipstick marks. And finally I have the concept for my tom-boys out there that love sports and even play the sport. All Carolina Girls are unique and I believe I have accomplished to express that in three distinct ways.

Komo Soy

"Komo Soy Sushi Menu"

This is a menu I created for my made up company I named "Komo Soy." In this class the students were given a paper/topic of what type of company the student would be designing for. I got the sushi bar. So I researched what typical Asian/Japanese restaurant styles looked like and started my thumbnails. I wanted a rough styling brush to draw with in Illustrator and found this style that is used in the composition. My idea started from the symbol of the Christian fish, since sushi is typically fish, I created the idea to have the fish jumping or turning into the sushi rolls. The illustration on my menu or my logo is fish that have been cut, and then the fish are rolled into sushi; being the spiral circles under the fish. My Professor and I discussed my idea for some time in order to come to this conclusion, overall he liked what my concept was communicating. I believe this composition works very well, the type used seems to look like the style a sushi bar would try to portray on their own menus and signage.

The other side

"The Other Side"

This piece was completed in my Graphic Symbolism class to express a cliche. I chose the cliche "The grass is greener on the other side." The style of this piece I was going for is to look as a collage. First my concept was to have dead grass on one side of the composition and on the other side have the lush green grass. But after talking it over with my Art Director, I had a different view of my concept. My Art Director appreciated my concept, he just wanted to see it in a more complex way. Instead of half and half on a page being very obvious we discussed to have the whole page be the green grass to show the viewers "The Other Side." My project has a very clean and refreshing feel to it and I hope my viewers feel and see the same idea. There is always room for improvement, with that being said, I believe this piece could have higher resolution photos and a more improved style of placing the photos, to then create a relaxing unified composition.

Flower show-Japan

"Japanese Flower Show"

This project was composed for my Graphic Symbolism class. Ive always loved creating collages and this project was my opportunity to create a collage that definitely says something. The red dot in the top left hand corner is to represent the Japanese flag of their country. I have used the same festive Japanese woman throughout the composition. The Japanese woman is used to create more drama to this piece. I tried to use more symmetry in this composition but it was more exciting to look at without much function. I enjoyed looking up and learning about the Japanese culture, but I did not enjoy hunting down high resolution photos at the right size, or having to re-size just about every picture used in this particular piece. Enjoy the view.

PSA-Suicide

"PSA on Suicide"

These pieces are a set of PSA's being Public Service Announcements. I decided to to suicide since I have personally have lost friends and family through suicides and I want the young people to be aware of how silly it really is to not "live life." This projects difficulties were coming up with different words to fill in the background and the foregrounds of the pieces. The most enjoyable part of these pieces are adding the details being the blood drips and gun explosions. Overall I enjoyed making these pieces, even though it is difficult for me to be mono toned. The use of the red is used to bring some life to the pieces as a whole. Thank you and Enjoy.

Alphabet

 "Alphabet"

This piece is called "alphabet" the piece was created for a typography class at South University to demonstrate the ability to use transparency with one color. I enjoyed creating this piece because it reminds me of the game "I spy." The viewers are challenged to find all the letters, and at the same time doubt that all 26 letters of the alphabet are included within this piece, but they are. Personally I wanted to add color to the big "A" in this piece but once I experimented with color, it didn't look right to me anymore. Enjoy.

Free Spirit

"Free Spirit"

My name is Amanda Wehner, I'm a Graphic Design student at South University. This is my first blog for my digital portfolio that will be updated regularly. This particular image is called "Free Spirit" and was completed as a class project. I found it difficult to find pictures to edit on Photoshop, but once my images were collected it was enjoyable to put them together and create a unified composition.  I love how the jumping female gives off a free spirit feel along with being open minded; it's her against the world. I wanted to female to look smaller than the flowers to symbolize how small humans are to their ongoing surroundings. My favorite part of this composition is the vibrant use of hues; they are very exciting and keep the audience motivated.
